Tullus HostiliusThe Third King of Rome
Tullius Hostilius was a Roman man who became king after Numa Pompilius' death. He was a more warlike king than his predecessor, and focused much of his efforts on stabilizing Roman strength.
One of his major war achievements was his fight against the Albans from Alba Longa. This conflict reached its end when 2 sets of triplets, the Horatii from Rome and the Curiatii from Alba Longa, fought a final battle in order to determine the victor. Two of the Horatii were killed, but the final one, Publius Horatius, defeated the remaining triplets and brought victory to Rome. Tullus Hostilius also created the Curia, the Senate house of ancient Rome. Tullus Hostilius died while performing a ritual to Jupiter Elicius. Due to a drastic mistake in the ritual, he was struck by lightning and killed. |
