CincinnatusCincinnatus is a proud symbol of early Republican values and leadership.
Because the Romans were succumbing to the attacks of the Aequi, Roman citizens called upon Cincinnatus to become dictator and lead the people into battle. Although he was at peace living in a rural farm, Cincinnatus took the position with dignity, and defeated the Aequi at Mount Algidus in 458 BCE. He then gave up his dictatorship, after only 16 days, and returned to his plow. |
